We provide support to people with long COVID, also known as post COVID syndrome.
Fatigue, breathlessness, brain fog, pain in joints and muscles, headaches, palpitations are some common symptoms of post COVID syndrome.
If you have had symptoms that have developed during or after an infection consistent with COVID-19, and they continue for more than 12 weeks and are not explained by an alternative diagnosis it may be post COVID-19 syndrome. Symptoms may fluctuate and change over time and can affect any system in the body.
Recovery from COVID will take time. The length of time needed will vary from person to person and it is important not to compare yourself to others. Ongoing symptoms could last for several months after you contract COVID-19 and this can be perfectly normal.
The team has established single point access into the service and rehabilitation pathways based on the latest guidance. People referred into the service will be assessed virtually, triaged for further investigations and/or referred on to the most appropriate service.
Contact your GP for referral to the service.
If your symptoms continue or recur beyond the initial recovery of COVID-19 infection, you will need to ask your GP to refer you to our service. You will need to have some tests and investigations first to find out more about your symptoms and rule out other things that could be causing them.
You will be invited to a virtual or telephone appointment, where our team will complete an in depth holistic assessment to see how the symptoms are impacting you. We will then be able to offer advice and support to help you to manage and improve your symptoms. We may refer on to other services if necessary.
We have a GP with special interest in post COVID syndrome, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, a nurse, dietitian, and speech and language therapist within the team.
We can provide advice and rehabilitation for managing fatigue and breathlessness, voice or swallow changes, sleep, mood or anxiety, dietetic advice and help for managing symptoms with work.
As you find yourself recovering from COVID, you may still be coming to terms with the impact the virus has had on both your body and mind.
These changes should get better over time, some may take longer than other, but there are things you can do to help which we can guide you with.
