Trust wins national people management award
Our Trust has won a national award for how it has equipped managers with a range of data to lead their teams and better deliver great patient care.
The Trust was honoured at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) People Management Awards 2025, which took place at the end of September. Led by the Workforce Team, we picked up the award for best people analytics initiative. That is despite the Trust being up against some big names, including Lloyds Banking Group!
"I am incredibly proud of my team. This is a fantastic achievement. The team have worked hard to ensure workforce data delivers great patient care." Alison Thorne-Henderson, Dual Chief People Officer

How are we making sure managers are equipped to lead their teams and better deliver patient care? The Trust employs more than 5,000 people, so data is vital! Our managers need to access workforce data easily. It allows them to focus on key areas of need, enhance team performance, and improve productivity. Metrics are often linked too. For example sickness absence and staff turnover.
Over 18 months, teams worked to pull all data together. It was a co-production approach to understand what managers wanted and needed from their workforce data. Champions were identified. Dashboard designs were tested. Feedback was gathered. Now, the Trust has a suite of reports that are meaningful and useful.
The data dashboards are now a pivotal part of workforce reporting. Since they went live, the Trust has provided training and showcase events. These ensure staff understand how to access the dashboards, what the data shows, and how it can be useful. They support managers to manage their teams and help with operational decision-making. They are also used for Board and sub-committee reporting.

The Workforce Planning and Intelligence Team takes a continuous improvement approach. The team regularly reviews and develops the dashboards to meet the needs of users. All of this work aligns to the NHS People Promise and its core pledges of 'we work flexibly' and 'we are always learning'.
Praising this approach, judges said they "loved the team's enthusiasm and energy" in "raising the organisation's human resources, workforce, and manager capability."
The awards were attended by Laura Drummond-Smith, Workforce Transformation Lead; Jill Chaisty, Workforce Planning Lead; Rebecca Dombrick-Stephens, Workforce Transformation Analyst; Chris Mitchell, Head of Integrated Professions, West Integrated Care Area.
