Forensic Mental Health Team

The Forensic Mental Health Team (FMHT) provides treatment to people over the age of 16 years old, who come into contact with the police or courts.

If you have a mental illness and have committed or are suspected of committing a criminal offence you will probably be referred to our Forensic Mental Health Team. As we treat people with unique needs, our team works closely with the community mental health teams, the police, probation services and the local courts.

Where people have Special needs that cannot be met in Cornwall, our forensic team will co-ordinate the delivery of their treatment in a medium or high-security hospital elsewhere in England. The team will also support people with mental illnesss who are on probation.

Referrals to this service are usually made through the community mental health teams. Some criminal justice agencies and prison services can also make direct referrals.
