Trust staff member only wins a blooming award!
In addition to her role as Patient Safety Coordinator at the Trust, the climbing, running and well-travelled adventurer, better known as Leslie Lawson-Kinross is also the Chair of ‘Truro in Bloom’.
Battling stiff opposition from communities from across the country, Truro, under Leslie’s stewardship has been awarded the top prize and been crowned Champion of Champions’ in the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition.
In an attempt to beat the summer heat, which proved very challenging, Truro opted for exotic, drought tolerant planting that included cacti, palms and herbs, also wowing the judges with a solar powered rainwater harvesting system, more than a thousand hanging baskets and floral features, urban tree plantings and a community orchard, all this taking place during one of the hottest summers on record.
A jubilant Leslie said, “This really was a community partnership project, a great effort that involved the council’s parks department, local businesses and of course residents, all working tirelessly together to ensure our displays were at their very best when the judges visited Truro.”
Leslie added “I’m so very honoured to have been a part of this competition and would like to thank everyone who contributed to Truro winning this prestigious award, you should all feel very proud.”
Leslie and representatives of Truro in Bloom are pictured proudly showing-off their much-deserved award at a glittering ceremony recently held at Belfast’s iconic Waterfront Hall.
