It’s good to talk

Cornwall’s NHS is encouraging anyone with stress, anxiety, or low mood to find out about how talking therapies can help them to manage and improve their mental wellbeing.

Did you know that last year over 10,000 people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly used a talking therapy to help get their life back on track?  In fact, 92% of people received an appointment with a trained therapist in less than 6 weeks.

Therapy is provided for free by the NHS as part of a national programme called improving access to psychological therapies (IAPT). It is easy to access and there is no need for a referral or conversation with a GP. People can refer themselves online or call 01208 871 905 between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Dr Yonette Hassell is the psychologist who runs the service at the Trust.

“We are working with our community to transform mental health services in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.  It is important people seek help when they need it. Last year, one sixth of people experienced some form of low mood linked to life events or a long-term health condition. If you are struggling with stress, low mood or worry, the talking therapies we offer can help you learn new skills to get your life back on track.

“By opting to work with our therapists by phone, video, online or in person, you can learn how to manage and improve your mental wellbeing. Do not delay, get in touch today.”

The Trust also has a mental health response line which is free to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is there if you are worried about your own or someone else’s mental health. You can call the mental health response line on 0800 038 5300.
