New Palliative Care Room Opens at Bodmin Hospital
A very special facility has recently been opened at Bodmin Community Hospital. Created as a room from home; the new Palliative Care room will enable patients and their relatives, friends and carers to have the facilities they need to receive care in a more non-clinical environment.
The aptly named Chy Kara (House of Love) is an end of life palliative care room situated on Anchor Ward within Bodmin Community Hospital and gives patients the space and time they need in a dignified and respectful way.
Anchor Ward Sister, Sarah Washer said, “I am delighted at what has been achieved and extremely proud to have been able to support the team in enabling this special room to open. Ward staff both past and present have been fundraising very hard over the years, receiving lots of support from the local community, patients families and Bodmin Hospital League of Friends.
Suzie Gore, Chair of the League of Friends said, “So often fundraising projects are instigated by the League of Friends, but on this occasion the opposite happened, as people who have had first-hand experience of the excellent care their relatives had received at the hospital were only too happy to support this project to show their appreciation.”
Suzie added, “The Anchor Ward staff are so patient centred, their approach goes way beyond professionalism, they care, they listen, have a good sense of humour and are very sensitive and thoughtful. The name Chy Kara (House of Love) says it all really.”
