Healthcare Trust Part of Winning Palliative Care Team
Community Specialist Palliative Care nurses from Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust; with colleagues from wider Specialist Palliative Care teams have been awarded a prestigious accolade from students at the University of Exeter, Medical School.
The Clinical Excellence in Teaching, Team of the Year Award, was received by Andy Shury, Community Specialist Palliative Care Nurse, Cornwall Foundation Trust and Doctors Deborah Stevens, Jane Gibbins and Kirsty Scott from Cornwall Hospice Care who accepted it on behalf of all palliative care teams across Cornwall.
A delighted Angela Carey, Specialist Palliative Care Team Lead for West Cornwall, said, “What makes this award particularly rewarding is that we have been nominated by the medical students in placement with the team.”
“The students all said they were impressed by the clinical hands-on teaching and the direct contact with patients, at different stages of their illness in different care settings across the county.”
Angela added, “It’s important that students get a full understanding and experience of what’s involved in providing high quality palliative care. These experiences will embed a sound knowledge and perfect the skills and qualities required to provide end of life care in the future.”
